Plymouth’s Local Access Forum
Section 94 of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 says we must set up a group of people to be known as a Local Access Forum. The role of this forum will be to tell us what they think about the way we handle public access to land that is used for recreation and enjoyment outdoors.
We used to have a forum called the Public Rights of Way Forum before these new rules came about. This ran for about four years but as it has now stopped meeting the Local Access Forum has been set up to take its place.
Plymouth's Local Access Forum is made up of between 10 and 22 members. We will try to make sure that these peoples' views will be similar to the views of the many different people who live in Plymouth. These will include:
- Users of rights of way (eg walkers and cyclists);
- People who own land that people enjoy using; and
- People who know about things we think are important to consider in Plymouth, for example wildlife conservation, the Military, tourism and local businesses.
We are currently looking to recruit more members to the forum. We would specifically like to receive applications from people who own land over which the public have access or people who believe they have other 'interests' that might be relevant to Plymouth. Whilst we currently have enough Members representing users of public rights of way we do operate a waiting list and we would be happy to keep names on file so that when existing Members appointments end each year anyone who is interested can be considered.
If you would like further information on the Local Access Forum please have a look through this website, where you can download the information pack, or contact the Rights of Way Officer or Forum Secretary. You can even turn up to the next forum meeting and watch what goes on. All forum meetings are open to the public and you can find out when the next meeting is on the agendas, meetings and minutes page of this site. The annual Local Access Forum 2006 to 2007 report in the document table below gives more detail about the work the forum does
