Heavenly designs on new George and Milehouse park and ride fleet
The very latest in luxury public transport has come to Plymouth to woo commuters out of their cars onto the George Junction and Milehouse park and ride service. All 9 new park and ride buses went into service on Monday 8 January 2007.
The cloud design on the nine new double-deckers is apt because the on-board comfort for passengers is heavenly. Comforts include leather seats, on-board security cameras and televisions bringing customers the latest national news updates and promotional information about Plymouth.
First Devon and Cornwall were awarded the contract by Plymouth City Council to operate the park and ride service.
Cabinet member for Transport Councillor Dafydd Williams said: "These buses are at the cutting edge of public transport luxury and are hailed as the most eco-friendly in the world - using 20 per cent less fuel than other models and therefore cutting those nasty carbon emissions. We want local people who shop and work in Plymouth and tourists to park up and enjoy a comfortable, hassle free journey."
Marc Reddy, Managing Director for First in Devon and Cornwall said "It is a pleasure to be involved with this project. This joint partnership approach with Plymouth City Council has delivered this innovative and high quality public transport solution. The vehicles are truly exceptional, providing an environmental and quality solution to the city's ever increasing transport needs."
