Plymouth's subsidised bus services

Helping to get you to work, shopping, school and healthcare…

Most of the city’s bus services are run by private companies on a commercial basis, with the exception of 12 services (less than 5 per cent of the total bus network) which currently rely on financial support from the Council. The financial support provided by the Council allows local bus and taxi companies to run services at times when they would not otherwise operate.

Routes operating during the daytime provide access to employment opportunities at some of the city’s major employers in the city centre, at Langage and Derriford Hospital, education at a number of the city’s schools, colleges and the University, healthcare at both local surgeries and Derriford Hospital, and shopping facilities in the city centre and out of town supermarkets, whilst Sunday services provide links to city centre shopping and leisure activities around Burrator and Wembury.

Most of our supported bus routes are operated by buses but Plymouth has pioneered the use of taxibuses to complement the city’s sustainable transport network.

Please remember that the future operation of these services is dependent upon your continued patronage.  Check our list below to see if Plymouth is helping you to make use of our network of local bus services.

You can find timetables for all of the services below by putting the service number into the search tool of our online timetable book.

Board the Beach Bus to Bovisand

Beach lovers will be able to take a bus straight to Bovisand again this summer.

The service 54 ‘beach bus’, which is financially supported by the Council, will be operated by Target Travel and run from Saturday 23 May until Sunday 13 September 2015.

It will run at the weekend during school term time and every day during the half term and summer holidays.

The service will depart from the A9 stop on Royal Parade every hour from 10am until 6pm (except at 2pm) and return from Bovisand hourly from 10.30am until 6.30pm (except at 1.30pm).

It will offer families a low-hassle way to enjoy a great day out over the summer, whether they head for the beach or take a walk along the beautiful South West Coast Path.
