Plymouth's subsidised bus services

Helping to get you to work, shopping, school and healthcare…

Most of the city’s bus services are run by private companies on a commercial basis, with the exception of 12 services (less than 5 per cent of the total bus network) which currently rely on financial support from the Council. The financial support provided by the Council allows local bus and taxi companies to run services at times when they would not otherwise operate.

Routes operating during the daytime provide access to employment opportunities at some of the city’s major employers in the city centre, at Langage and Derriford Hospital, education at a number of the city’s schools, colleges and the University, healthcare at both local surgeries and Derriford Hospital, and shopping facilities in the city centre and out of town supermarkets, whilst Sunday services provide links to city centre shopping and leisure activities around Burrator and Wembury.

Most of our supported bus routes are operated by buses but Plymouth has pioneered the use of taxibuses to complement the city’s sustainable transport network.

Please remember that the future operation of these services is dependent upon your continued patronage.  Check our list below to see if Plymouth is helping you to make use of our network of local bus services.

You can find timetables for all of the services below by putting the service number into the search tool of our online timetable book.

Returning for summer 2014

Hop aboard the beach bus!

Plymouth beach lovers will once again be able take a bus straight to the seaside this summer.

The number 54 runs to the popular beach of Bovisand, overlooking Plymouth Sound – and this year the season has been extended, giving families even more chances to enjoy the sun, sea and sand.

Operated by Target Travel and financially supported by the Council, the ‘beach bus’ will run from Saturday 24 May until Sunday 14 September 2014.

The service will operate at weekends until Sunday 27 July. The service will then operate daily from Monday 28 July up to and including Sunday 31 August before reverting to a weekend only service up to and including Sunday 14 September 2014.

Buses will depart from the A9 stop on Royal Parade every hour from 10am until 6pm (except at 2pm), returning from Bovisand hourly from 10.30am until 6.30pm (except at 1.30pm).

For more information about the Bovisand bus service call Target Travel on 01752 242000 or visit the Target Travel website.
