Consultation
Any new public transport infrastructure will not only have an impact on the movement of cars, cyclists and pedestrians, but also on the characteristics of an area, the environment and the local community.
The scale and complexity of this major transport scheme requires a range of consultation to be undertaken. The consultation needs to be extensive and wide ranging, but inevitably there will also be a requirement to carry out site specific or issue related consultation.
The cost of implementing a major scheme can be substantial and as such, Plymouth City Council in partnership with South Hams District Council, Devon County Council and the Highways Agency will submit a bid to gain funding from the Department for Transport (DfT). When submitting a Major Scheme Bid (MSB), the DfT will want to see who and how people were engaged in this process and how their opinions have been taken into consideration when developing a preferred option.
The Council has started engaging with active stakeholders by holding regular liaison meetings with Councillors and community representatives for Plymstock and Elburton and also the communities west of Laira Bridge (Prince Rock, Cattedown, St Judes and Coxside).
The purpose of the meetings is to update the community on the detail of emerging proposals, to gain their initial thoughts and to gather information about any community concerns or problems regarding the transport network. Information and meeting minutes are available on the consultation undertaken page.
The community’s issues are recorded on an issues register which is updated after each meeting and can be accessed from the documents table below.
Stakeholder and community management plan
A stakeholder and community management plan has been produced to provide a clear indication of Plymouth City Council’s approach to actively involving stakeholders and the community in the Eastern Corridor major transport scheme process.
The plan sets out how and who the Council will consult with, when people can get involved and the types of engagement activities that are planned. It also considers how information can most effectively be disseminated and feedback provided to our participants and to the wider public.
A consultation project plan has also been produced to provide indication of the timeframes and activities planned. This plan has been developed alongside the MSB project plan and is therefore subject to change. The plan may be changed and updated at any time.
