Supporting studies

In order to identify the transport improvements necessary to facilitate the provision of the Sherford new community a number of studies have been undertaken.

These studies have enabled the City Council to progress the Eastern Corridor High Quality Public Transport (HQPT) major scheme to its current position and provide supporting background information on the likely problems and potential solutions to the increased traffic movements that Sherford will generate.

East of Plymouth Infrastructure Study 2007

Devon County Council, the Highways Agency and Plymouth City Council jointly commissioned and provided the funding for the transport consultants Faber Maunsell to carry out a study of the transport infrastructure for the East of Plymouth.

Eastern Corridor Study 2005

Transport planning consultants Faber Maunsell were commissioned to consider the range of public transport options to serve the eastern corridor.

A recommended package of measures were identified to conclude this work, including the consideration of potential funding opportunities.

Eastern Gateway Framework Study 2004

In 2003 Plymouth City Council commissioned consultants to carry out a framework study for the eastern gateway to Plymouth.

Its focus was the area between Marsh Mills and Hele's Terrace/Laira bridge, to the east of the city centre abutting the River Plym, and considered how it could be developed and improved by identifying and evaluating integrated solutions to transport, development and environmental issues in the short, medium, and long-term.
