Plymouth Area Transport Strategy
This report provides a forward strategy for transport in Plymouth and the surrounding area until 2026. The final report will be complementary to other strategy documents including the Regional Spatial Strategy, the Regional Transport Strategy, the Devon and Cornwall Structure Plans, the Plymouth Local Development Framework and the Mackay Vision.
The report is structured so that it explores the policy context for transport in chapters 1 and 2, examines in depth the existing transport network in Chapters 3 and 4, summarises proposals for development in the Plymouth Area in Chapter 5 and collates the key issues into a vision and forward strategy in Chapters 6 - 8.
The Plymouth sub-region has been identified as a key location for population and economic growth as one of the region’s Principal Urban Areas. Local vision also endorses a growth and regeneration agenda through the City Strategy and Mackay Vision.
A key to meeting this growth will be a transport system that is sustainable, able to cope with existing and future travel demand, offers choice and that can serve the needs of the population and the economy efficiently.
