Outdoor activities

Plymouth City Council transferred its management of adventure education to the new Mount Batten Centre on 1 April 2005.

The Council retains an interest in the operations at Mount Batten such that it can be confident of the centre's quality and safety standards. The adventure activities licence previously held by the Plymouth Outdoor Education Centre has been transferred to the new centre and so anyone using the service can be confident that rigorous inspection has taken place. All enquiries for Plymouth Outdoor Education Centre should now be transferred to the Mount Batten Centre.

Adventure education offers the opportunity to develop the capacity to be able to live and learn in the wilder environment and is particularly effective at supporting a healthy lifestyle. There are opportunities at Mount Batten ranging from gentle introductions to the higher levels of activity leadership and so anyone can find an activity to suit them. Staff work with their groups to provide new opportunities that enable a supported progression to greater levels of capability and self confidence. Whether it is being more confident of navigation skills to lead walks on the moors or co-ordinating a fleet of sailing boats.

Courses are offered to schools, clubs and individuals throughout the year during term time and school holidays.
