Owning or thinking of buying an empty home
The empty homes team's aim is to support owners or prospective buyers of long-term empty properties to help bring them back into use voluntarily.
We understand that owning an empty property can in some cases feel overwhelming. To help overcome this, the empty homes team has created a robust package of incentives designed to help owners.
Empty home owner incentive package
The package includes:
- General advice and guidance.
- Helping your money go further, with support to get reduced rate VAT on building materials, signposting to appropriate alternative funding schemes and advice on your eligibility for the interest free empty home loans (availability of loans is limited and are targeted at priority long term empty properties).
- Referral to one of the Council’s rental schemes, EasyLet or HouseLet.
- Help to sell your property with reduced commission rates at local auction houses or circulation of your property details to our developer list.
This is not a complete list of the help the empty homes team can offer. The team will always try to help with any problems empty home owners have. This is in recognition that to do nothing is not an option and could lead to enforcement action. Please read our empty homes enforcement page for details.
For more information on how the empty homes team can help you please contact us.
Buying an empty home
