About Plymouth Safeguarding Children Board

We want to make sure that children and young people feel safe and cared for in Plymouth and hope that this website is useful to those who want to know more about the work of the Plymouth Safeguarding Children Board (PSCB).

Children can only be safeguarded properly if agencies work effectively together. Local Safeguarding Children Boards are designed to make sure that this happens. In Plymouth agencies who work together as members of the PSCB are:

We hope that children and young people, families and communities will use the website as well as professionals working with children.

The work of the PSCB contributes to the wider goals of improving the well being and safety of all children within the Plymouth area, these goals are known as the five 'Every Child Matters' outcomes:

• Being healthy
• Being safe
• Enjoying and achieving
• Making a positive contribution
• Achieving economic well being

Whilst contributing to all of the above goals, it is 'being safe' which is the main focus for the PSCB and its ongoing work programme.

What do we do?

The PSCB has a responsibility to help children and young people to be safe and not be harmed.

It has a responsibility to monitor how well people work with children, young people and families helping children to stay safe.

It also has to ensure that staff and volunteers who work with children, young people and families are all working to the same rules or procedures and have training to help them to do their jobs as well as they can.

The PSCB has to write a plan that sets out what we are going to do to try and help children and young people stay safe and how we are going to do it. This plan is called the PSCB Annual Business Plan 2007 to 2010.

How do we do it?

The PSCB believes that we all have to work together in partnership and that children should be listened to. The PSCB believes that children should be safe and helped to do the best they can.

Agencies work together through an agreed membership structure to deliver a full work programme to meet the business objectives and priorities of the PSCB.
