All Stars shine bright with Museum dance project

Community outreach and collections staff worked with the All Stars Theatre Group on a dance project inspired by the shoes in our Gertrude Benham collection in 2007.

The All Stars are a group of adults with learning disabilities who take part in activities to develop their skills in theatre, music and the arts.

Initially, they visited the Museum to look through Gertrude's shoes and get inspired. They then worked with a dancer in residence to produce a short dance piece which was performed at 'Sole Music', an evening of musical 'footwear-themed' entertainment, held in July 2007.

This interesting project certainly proved that museum collections can be fun! The evening, one of many productions staged by the All Stars to help raise funds so they can set themselves up as a registered charity, was a great success with a raffle and even a chance for the audience to sing along.
