Treasures from the Earth

Currently on display at Penlee House Museum, Penzance - until 21 May 2011

Touring to:

'Treasures from the Earth' is a touring exhibition produced in partnership between the Royal Cornwall Museum, Truro, the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter and Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery. It is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Renaissance in the Regions.

The exhibition has already toured to museums in Devon and Somerset and aims to engage people with archaeology. It features iconic finds from the stored collections of each of the partner museums. Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery is loaning 10 items from its human history collections, including a clay pipe, a Roman coin and a pig bone.

Have you ever been inspired by stories of pioneer archaeologists stumbling across untold treasures in the deserts of Egypt or longed to be the one to unearth a piece of Bronze Age gold, shimmering as brightly now as it was 3,000 years ago when it was buried? This show, which will tour the South West over the next three years, tells visitors how they too can become the new Indiana Jones or Time Team superstar!

If you'd like to find out more about this exhibition, please contact Vicky Dawson, Project Manager on 01823 274525 or vickym@dawsonheritage.co.uk.

This exhibition provides a snapshot of this research with a rare opportunity to see a selection from Sir John's unique mineral collection, some of his pressed plants and more about his life.

If you'd like to find out more about this exhibition, please contact Jan Freedman, Acting Keeper of Natural History at Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery, on 01752 304774.
