Music tutors
Information for peripatetic music tutors working in Plymouth schools
PYMS engages self-employed music tutors who are allocated to schools according to demand, with quality assurance provided. If you are an accredited instrumental or vocal tutor with good references and are available for any additional tuition work that might arise in Plymouth please complete the tutor information form below to register your name or confirm that you are on the LA's tutor database.
Prior to you being offered any work by PYMS, you will be required to undergo a Criminal Records Bureau background check in accordance with current regulations.
Tutors are expected to be self-employed (registered as sole traders) and make their own arrangements regarding Income Tax, CRB clearance and National Insurance. These tutors will be able to invoice the LA directly for their fees. The Music Service is keen to ensure that standards of music tuition remain high; staff will be working closely with schools to ensure that quality control is an integral part of the provision of music tuition.
Music tutors will normally be expected to teach groups of two to four students in each lesson. The schools at which they teach will, in partnership with the tutors, co-ordinate records of teaching hours per month to facilitate payment. This will be made directly to each tutor based on a current set rate of £26 per hour. Schools will make their own arrangements for collection of fees from parents and will, in turn, be invoiced at the current rate of £30 per hour for the hours provided.
