Education

This website presents archive film clips, images and documents from the turn of the century through to the present day through four distinct themes:

  • Building the city
  • Transport
  • Sea and seaside
  • Home and community

These can be used to support numerous topics studied across the school curriculum, particularly at Key Stage Two and Three.

'Building the city' links in well with a Second World War topic or a pre war/post war study. The theme of 'Transport' has more obvious links while 'Sea and seaside' looks at the historic use of the local foreshore for work and leisure. 'Home and community' material will support classroom studies on houses and homes, old and new and the Victorians.

New resources

We have recently added a selection of short contemporary responses (films) to the archive materials. These were created by four BA Media Arts students at the University of Plymouth. These film shorts will give your students a chance to experience another interpretation of these valuable and intriguing historical sources. You can find these within each of the four 'themes'.
