RSS feeds
What is RSS?
RSS stands for 'Really Simple Syndication'. It allows you to subscribe to content you like on a website and have it delivered to you automatically.
By using RSS, you can get the latest content from certain areas of our website all in one place, as soon as it’s published, without having to visit the specific web pages. It takes away the hassle of having to go to your favourite pages (for example job vacancies) just to keep up-to-date.
How do I use RSS?
There are two ways to get RSS 'fed' to you:
You can use a program called a 'News Reader' to display your subscribed RSS feeds from your chosen websites on your computer. All you have to do is choose which RSS feeds you want.
There are many different News Reader applications, some of which are accessed using a browser, and some of which need to be installed on your PC. Browser-based news readers let you catch up with your RSS feed subscriptions from any computer, whereas installed applications let you store the feeds on your main computer.

Some web browsers, including Internet Explorer 7 (IE7), Firefox 2, Opera and Safari, automatically check for feeds for you when you visit a website, and display an icon when they find one. This can make subscribing to feeds much easier. For more details on these, please check their websites:

What if I can’t get RSS?
Some RSS feeds (including Plymouth City Council’s feeds) can still be accessed in other browsers (such as Internet Explorer 6). Clicking on the RSS feed you want from the website will open up a conventional web page with all the new content shown on it. The latest website posting then appears at the top.
