Secondary school admissions for entry in September 2009
These pages are designed to help you if your child is due to transfer from primary to secondary education in September 2009. They explain how we deal with applications and enable you to apply online for a school place. This information and application form is also available in hard copy as a booklet entitled 'The Next Step - a parent’s guide to secondary school admissions in September 2009'.

Independent advice is available from ACE (Advisory Centre for Education) on their help line 0808 800 5793 and also from the Choice Advisor located at the Parent Partnership Service on 01752 258933 or email parent.partnership@plymouth.gov.uk.
The Government has published a Code of Practice on school admissions which explains the good practice guidelines that we follow.
The deadline for applications for admissions in September 2009 was 17 October 2008. Whilst we are happy to accept late applications, we may not be able to deal with them alongside, or in exactly the same way as, those submitted on time and many of the schools may have already been filled by those applicants who applied on time.
What to do now

- Complete and submit a paper application form which you can download from our secondary school admissions documents page (you may apply for up to three schools and rank them in priority order).
School place allocations
If you applied for a school place by the published closing date, your notification letter, confirming the school allocated to your child will be posted to you on 2 March 2009. This means that you will not receive the letter until after 2 March 2009.
If you applied online:
- and you need to amend your personal details or view you application, you can do so by signing back into the online system and clicking the view/edit button. The system will not accept new applications or changes to applications previously submitted;
- we hope to release emails to parents/carers confirming school place allocations on 2 March 2009 during the morning;
- it should be possible to sign into the online system from 2 March 2009 and by clicking the view/edit button, view the school place allocated under the 'status' field.
