Mission statement

To work with sporting partners and other key agencies to promote and encourage participation in sport and physical activity throughout Plymouth by improving sustainable opportunities for people to take part; supporting structures necessary to allow people to progress and improve performance; enabling positive change in sporting behaviour, as an end in itself, or as a contribution to a wider social, economic, educational, environmental or health agenda.

Our aims

  • To promote and encourage participation in sport and physical activity throughout Plymouth by improving opportunities for people to take part
  • To support structures necessary to allow people to progress and improve their performance
  • To encourage proactive, equitable and accessible programmes designed to develop positive and sustained sporting and physical activity habits amongst young people

We offer and support a variety of opportunities for sporting individuals, local clubs and organisations across the city.

Quest

Plymouth City Council’s Sports Development Unit achieved Quest registration in April 2005, with a commendable first assessment score of 71%.

In 2007 we were assessed again and increased our score to 77% due to our commitment to continuous improvement, we are now a highly recommended Sports Development Unit.

We scored highly in the areas of 'policy and strategy', 'sports development plans' and 'marketing'. The team will be working hard to ensure that they maintain their high level of service delivery.

Quest is a UK quality scheme for sport and leisure that defines industry standards and good practice and the development of a customer-focused service within a continuous improvement management framework.

Quest is endorsed by the British Quality Foundation for Self-Assessment in Sports and Leisure Operators and is recognized by Sport England.

We are delighted that its hard work has been externally verified as following recognised good practice in sports development.

A Quest action plan is in production to ensure we maintain our standards in areas where we scored highly.

Quest also challenges us to improve continuously. We are looking forward to meeting this challenge with the support of our partners and to make sure we enhance our reputation, locally, regionally and nationally.
