Access Plymouth

Operating from purpose built premises in Mayflower East car park, Access Plymouth (previously Plymouth Shopmobility and Community Transport) is an independent charity providing a wide range of services for Plymouth residents and visitors who find transportation difficult due to disability or age.

Under the direction of an Executive Committee, staff and over 50 volunteer workers help to support and operate the following services:

Shopmobility

You can hire a scooter or wheelchair for use in and around Plymouth City Centre from Shopmobility. A small scooter test will need to be taken before a vehicle is used (by appointment).

Opening hours

The Drake Circus shopmobility (for registered members only) is available on Sundays.

Hire cost

All equipment is available for longer term hire.

Booking in advance and a deposit is essential and an on-site engineer is available for any necessary repairs and advice.

Community Car Scheme

The community car scheme is is a car sharing scheme using volunteer drivers and their cars. It can be used to take people to appointments or leisure activities such as:

Normally 48 hours notice is required to use this service although we do try to help last minute calls.

Ring and Ride

This is a wheelchair accessible minibus for the elderly and disabled who live in Plymouth.

Cost

You can travel for the first month without having to pay the £12 annual registration fee to see if the service is right for you.

The ring and ride buses are also used for our 'Out and About Club' - taking people on day trips to garden centres, beauty spots and local places of interest as well as our weekly Bingo Club.
