Accident casualties

Every injury has a physical, emotional, social and financial cost. We take this issue very seriously and Plymouth’s Second Local Transport Plan 2006-2011 has these targets:

Amber Traffic Light Indicating Some Progress Has Been Made Core Strategy Target 14.3

Reduce the number of fatalities and serious injuries due to road accidents by 60% by 2010 - including 80 per cent reduction in the number of child fatalities/serious injuries and a 20 per cent reduction in minor casualties.

This target has been partly met.

The number of road traffic accident casualties of all types increased in the past year, but the reductions since 1998 have been significant:

The target for the reduction in minor casualties has been met, but both measures for fatalities and serious injuries are slightly below their targets.

Plymouth Transport and Highways through Plymouth’s Third Local Transport Plan (2011 to 2026) will continue deliver road safety improvements with increased priority for vulnerable road users.
