Adult social care

We are currently working towards implementing 'Putting People First' the Government’s vision for the future direction of adult social care. We are committed to put users of adult social care at the heart of decisions about their care, and promote independence, choice and control.

Adult social care is about supporting and assisting people who cannot manage alone due to severe illness, frailty, disability or vulnerability. It enables people to live as independently as possible in their own homes or with their family or friends.

Most adult social care is provided by family, friends and neighbours. We work with other organisations and individuals to ensure that those people in need of adult social care services and their carers are identified, given relevant information and then supported in the most appropriate cost effective way.

Many people's involvement with us will be brief, caused by an accident or temporary incapacity. For some there will be more extended or even permanent periods of vulnerability requiring longer term support. However, only a minority will require ongoing professional support.
