Pride in our past

This is a project working in partnership with the Plymouth Pride Forum to record the history of the LGBT community in Plymouth funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The Pride in our Past project aims to create an archive of the LGBT community's memories and experiences and it was created through the realisation that some of the older members of the community had witnessed a change in attitudes during their lifetime that was unlikely to be repeated in history. A qualified researcher/co-ordinator has been appointed and we also have a PhD student working on the project for three years.

Key aims

• To create permanent static and virtual archive of LGBT life within the city.
• To record and compile the memories of older members of the LGBT communities.
• To research the history of LGBT life within the city.
• To recruit and train members of the LGBT community to act as oral historians.
• To prepare and produce an exhibition of LGBT Plymouth based on the project activity from 28 April to 30 June 2012 at the Plymouth City Museum and Gallery
• To promote intergenerational learning in terms of schools and other youth groups.
