Volunteers in the Record Office
Volunteering at the Plymouth and West Devon Record Office is a great way to learn new skills, meet new people, boost your confidence, make a difference and have some fun!

Projects
Currently there are volunteers working on several projects. These include scanning and cataloguing the following:
- Stoke Damerel churchyard photographs
- The Western Morning News photographic collection
- Plymouth Local Studies Library prints and photographs
Also, there are volunteers working on:
- Cataloguing the deeds and correspondence of the St Aubyn Estate, Devonport
- Re-boxing and packaging of archive collections
- Helping at Open Days and other activities which the Record Office is involved in

A quote from one of our current volunteers:
"A very warm welcome awaited me when I visited the Plymouth and West Devon Record Office. My interest was aroused when I saw a request for volunteers on the City Council website. Having made an initial phone call to gauge my suitability I was invited for a no-obligation visit. I was shown around, met other volunteers and permanent staff and given time to see for myself what the tasks involved. I'm so glad I took that step. A couple of weeks later I began scanning and cataloguing photographic images, learning and developing new skills supported by a small, very friendly and helpful team. I'm really enjoying this new experience and would recommend it, particularly to anyone with an interest in local history."
