The Plymouth Connect-West project will provide fantastic new traffic free and on-road walking and cycling routes, which will link the south western area of the city to existing routes which extend across Plymouth and into Cornwall, including the National Cycle Network (NCN).
The East End Transport Scheme (currently under construction) will include pedestrian and cycling improvements and will join up with the Plymouth Connect-West routes to create a continuous east - west link. These routes will be further extended as £4.33million has now been secured from the Local Sustainable Transport Fund.
In March 2011, Sustrans allocated £360,000 towards this project and, in May 2011, a further £110,000 was allocated. This is in addition to the £60,000 that was secured in 2010. Additional funding to support the scheme has been provided through the Council's own transport budget.
A Consultation and Communication Management Plan has been developed to help guide local community involvement and generate wider city interest. It is hoped that involving the local communities will provide a sense of ownership and maximise usage of the routes.
A Plymouth Connect - West proposed route map shows the different elements of the project and the expected delivery timeframe. A route map is available to download on the proposed routes page.
