You are a student if you are:
Correspondence courses, evening courses or classes do not count.
Some homes are exempt from council tax. This means council tax is not payable while the exemption lasts.
Your home will be exempt if you are a student and you:
If you leave your course, you will be counted for council tax in the normal way. Be aware of this if you live in a property with other full-time students as you will be charged council tax. If in doubt please contact us.
If you are receiving an exemption or discount which is no longer applicable, please tell us straight away.
A full council tax bill assumes there are two or more adults (people aged 18 or over) living in a property as their main home.

If you receive a demand and think you qualify for an exemption or discount, please contact us. To confirm your student status we may ask you to provide a certificate from the student records office at your college or university.
If we don’t give you a student discount or exemption and you think we should have, you can appeal.
