The admission arrangements for community and voluntary controlled schools in 2013/14 will be the same as those for 2012/13, as published on the school admissions page, with the following exceptions:

  1. New timetables and admissions processes for primary and secondary schools at the normal point of entry;
  2. Locally agreed in-year scheme of admissions to allow own admission schools to request that the Council continue to receive applications on their behalf enabling a single point of contact for parents;
  3. Amend definition of looked after children to “A 'looked after child' or a child who was previously looked after but immediately after being looked after became subject to an adoption, residence, or special guardianship order. A looked after child is a child who is (a) in the care of a local authority, or (b) being provided with accommodation by a local authority in the exercise of their social services functions (see the definition in section 22(1) of the Children Act 1989)”in line with the revised School Admissions Code of Practice;
  4. Add receipt of child tax credit as a means of identifying a home address;
  5. Amend the timetable for secondary selection testing in line with requirements in the revised School Admissions Code of Practice;
  6. Amendments to the published admission numbers (at the normal point of entry) for some schools – amended following consultation

What if I want to object to the determined admission arrangements?

'Admission arrangements' is a term used to describe the overall procedure, practices, criteria and supplementary information used by a school admission authority in deciding on the allocation of places in a school.

Admission arrangements - who can object?

Any person or body who considers that any maintained school or Academy's arrangements are unlawful, or not in compliance with the Code or relevant law relating to admissions, can make an objection to the Schools Adjudicator.

When can I object?

Please complete the objection form on the School’s Adjudicator website. This form needs to be submitted between the school admission arrangements being determined by 15 April, and by 30 June in that year.

It is advisable for you to object as early as possible as any delays up to the deadline will impact on the decision date. If you miss the deadline, the adjudicator may still consider the objection - but only if there is good reason for not sending it earlier.

What happens after I object?

The schools adjudicator will consider all evidence provided to them before reaching an independent decision within the law.

Once made, a ‘determination’ will be published on their website. The determination will contain the decision and the reasons behind that decision.
