Hackney Carriage Quantity Limit Policy Review

This consultation has now closed. This page will be updated as soon as the consultation responses have been considered and the Council has decided whether or not to retain the hackney carriage quantity limit.

We have launched a three month public consultation and are seeking views on whether or not to maintain our current policy, which is to retain a limit on the number of hackney carriages (taxis) permitted to operate within Plymouth.

We currently have a policy that restricts the number of taxi licences to 360. A further 20 licences are available (subject to certain conditions being met) to allow taxibus services to operate. At present there are 367 licensed taxis operating throughout the city.

There is no legal framework to limit the number of private hire vehicles.

The Council is periodically required to review whether it is appropriate to retain this policy and this consultation is the first stage in the process.

You can complete the survey online or download and complete the feedback response form below and send it to Taxi Licensing, Public Protection Service, Civic Centre, Plymouth, PL1 2AA or email it to taxi.licensing@plymouth.gov.uk.
