Homelessness Strategy
We are required by the Homelessness Act 2002 to review homelessness and causes locally and to develop a strategy to address the findings of the review. The Plymouth Homelessness Review has been broadly available for consultation and comment since January 2008, and is a detailed examination of local causes of homelessness with an emphasis on partnership and service user involvement.
This has guided the development of the new Plymouth strategy for tackling homelessness to address these local issues.
The new strategy and action plan seeks to address:
- The prevention of homelessness
- Ensuring there is sufficient accommodation available for people who are, or may become homeless
- Ensuring there is appropriate support for people who are or who may become homeless or who need support to prevent them from becoming homeless again
- Promoting a cultural change so that homelessness is viewed in a wider context than just lack of accommodation
