    Early learning and childcare places

    Early Learning funding is available for three and four year olds.  Your child is entitled to up to a maximum to up to 570 hours of free early learning per year. This can be taken either as 15 hours over 38 weeks or 12 hours over 47.5 weeks.

    Your childcare provision will aim to offer a flexible solution to meet your needs (subject to availability).

    Child entitlements

    Children who are three years old
    Will have a free place from
    the following:
    1 April and 31 August September
    1 September and 31 December January
    1 January and 31 March April

    These free places can be offered until a child reaches statutory school age.

    Your child could have a free place with any early years and childcare provider who is registered with Plymouth City Council (subject to availability).

    These include:

    • Pre-schools
    • Day nurseries
    • Independent (private) schools
    • School-run (maintained) nurseries, classes or nursery schools
    • Funded childminders
