Derriford and Seaton Area Action Plan

The City Council's vision for Derriford and Seaton, as defined by the Core Strategy, is to create a sustainable mixed-use new urban centre at the heart of the north of Plymouth.

This Area Action Plan (AAP) will set out land use policies and proposals to create a new centre for northern Plymouth at Derriford. We aim to promote this area as a high quality 'northern gateway' into the city; to secure prosperity by developing key employment sites; to provide a range of quality homes; create a new district shopping centre; safeguard the long-term position of the airport; to improve transport connections; to enable high density mixed use development in Southway and to promote public access to and enjoyment of natural green spaces.

Where we are

The process of producing the Derriford and Seaton AAP started in 2005 and since then there has been a lot of consultation and ongoing discussions to develop the plan with local people, interested organisations and developers.

The Pre-Submission Derriford and Seaton Area Action Plan was approved at Full Council on 31 January 2011 and a six week consultation was held from Wednesday 16 February to Wednesday 30 March 2011.

The Pre-Submission consultation provided an opportunity for people to give their comments to the Council and influence the plan before the document is submitted to the Secretary of State in May. The Council have now viewed all of the comments received and a summary report which summarises the comments made is now available to view. You can view the AAP and the comments that were made in full on the consultation portal.

The Council is now in the process of considering all of the consultation responses received and the AAP will be amended to take into account those comments that can help improve the plan.

In making any changes to the draft plan, the Council will continue to engage with the relevant key stakeholders, local traders and interested persons to ensure broad support for the AAP is maintained. The precise process for this further engagement is subject to a number of considerations and the timetable for progressing the Derriford and Seaton AAP is set out on the pre-submission page.
