Statement of Community Involvement

This sets out the standards to be adopted by us for engaging communities and key stakeholders. Its aim is to achieve greater public involvement in decision-making.

Better public engagement in the process will ensure that decision-making is transparent and accountable and reflects local needs. It will also encourage community 'ownership' of plans and policies, including the Local Development Framework (LDF).

Where we are

A new version of the Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) was adopted by Full Council in April 2009. This now forms part of the Local Strategic Partnership Compact, see the 'How we consult with you' document below. This applies to everyone who runs or takes part in community involvement in the city.

In addition there is an appendix setting our details specifically in relation to planning which can be viewed below.

The first SCI was formally adopted on 24 July 2006 by Full Council, following its submission to the Secretary of State on 28 February 2006.

Keeping in touch

The SCI states that a list of groups and organisations that will be consulted on all LDF documents will be published on the website. The list of consultees is available below, and is constantly being updated. If you know of a group or organisation that should be added to this list, please contact the Strategy Unit on 01752 305477 or email ldf@plymouth.gov.uk.

Venues

We also aim to hold events in places that are as accessible as possible for a wide range of people. When booking events we will consider how accessible the building is, whether it is Disability Discrimination Act compliant, and make this clear on any publicity. Priority will be given to the most accessible venues available. A list of venues that we may use is available below. This list is being constantly updated. If you know of a venue that should be used in the future or would like to make a comment or amendment on this list please contact the Strategy Unit on 01752 305477 or email ldf@plymouth.gov.uk.
