Improving public transport in the east of the city is vital to enable the growth set out in the Local Development Framework.
Deliver a high quality public transport (HQPT) service to serve eastern Plymouth from the occupation of the first homes at the Sherford new community, and to develop the HQPT service in line with future development in the eastern corridor.
This target is on track.
A business case for investing in this transport infrastructure is being put together. This includes developing a model to analyse traffic flows and public transport together to test the benefits of proposed schemes.
The East End Transport Scheme opened in November 2011. Money from the Local Sustainable Transport Fund has been awarded to improve the Laira Bridge area, including junction improvements, restoration of the rail bridge and improvements to routes used by pedestrians and cyclists.
Further works are supported by Plymouth Transport and Highways through Plymouth’s Third Local Transport Plan (2011 to 2026) which include improvements to public transport infrastructure and cycling links.
This page of the annual monitoring report was last updated December 2011.
