Plymouth Compact and Codes of Practice consultation
Plymouth 2020 is planning to revise the Plymouth Compact from the current Code and associated Codes of Practice to one simplified document and we are keen to hear your views on what commitments should be included in a revised Compact.
We wish to revise the current Compact for a number of reasons:
- The revised National Compact a much simplified document replacing the Codes of Practice was introduced in December 2010.
- The government's proposed new one page Best Value Guidance, currently out to consultation but due to be launched in the summer emphasizes the need for simplified guidance and compliance with local Compacts.
- The Big Society agenda encompassed in the Decentralisation and Localism Bill will mean changes around how the public and voluntary and community sectors work together.
- The introduction of the Equalities Act means we need to ensure the Compact includes all protected characteristics covered by the Act.
- There is also recognition that the Plymouth Compact has not been particularly effective and a simplified version would be more workable.
We want to involve as many organisations as possible in the discussion around a revised Compact and we are therefore launching a three month consultation period starting on 1 June.
A consultation event was held on 14 July to look at the new national compact and identify those commitments that we felt it was important to include in a revised Plymouth Compact. Other comments and suggestions were also considered. The feedback from that event is included below:

At the event we also agreed to set up a small working party to prepare a draft from comments received. The draft will then be available for comments and will be published on the website within the next few weeks. A further event is planned for later in the summer to discuss and agree a final draft in time for launching a revised Compact in September.
