Motorcycles in bus lanes

Motorcycles are being allowed to use bus lanes within the city of Plymouth. This is an 18 month trial to see if motorcycle casualties can be reduced in the city.

Sign used to indicate motorcycles can use the bus lane


The sign on the left includes the motorcycle symbol and this means a motorbike can use the bus lane.

If you don’t see the motorbike on the bus lane sign motorbikes are not allowed in the bus lane due to environmental or safety factors.

How will we know if it is successful?

Motorcyclists themselves are the key to the success of the trial. The trial will depend on motorcyclists acting responsibly in order to keep themselves and other road users safe.
