Moving and working in the European Union (EU)

EURES - European job mobility portal

Created in 1993, EURES is made up of public sector employment services of countries within the European Economic Area (EEA), comprising the 25 member states of the European Union (EU) plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. The public sector employment service in the UK is Jobcentre Plus.

More than 700 EURES advisers across Europe provide information and advice and recruitment opportunities to citizens and employers, making it more straightforward for citizens to move freely within the EEA.

Jobseekers

The jobseekers section of the EURES website enables citizens to create and manage an online CV and to receive job offers by email. A job search facility, updated in real time, contains details of hundreds of thousands of jobs requiring a diversity of skills in a wide range of sectors and across the EEA.

Employers

The employers section of the EURES website provides statistical information about both jobseekers (for example, type of work being sought) and employers (for example, type of company) registered with EURES. The website enables employers to advertise jobs, to receive CVs by email and to send enquiries to jobseekers.

Living and working

The living and working section of the EURES website provides extensive information for jobseekers preparing to move from one EEA country to another. The website also provides labour market information at national and regional levels.

Information about living and working conditions is given within four sections:

For further information and details about moving and working in other countries within the EEA, contact the relevant embassy in the UK.
