First Hand

We have a series of Discovery Desks which are manned by our volunteers from 1pm to 3pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Ever wanted to have a close up look at a piece of Plymouth porcelain or hold a 2000 year old Egyptian shabti? With our Discovery Desks, you now can! The desks are based around the Museum in the Explore Nature, Ancient Egypt, Uncovered and Atrium galleries.

Interested in getting involved?

We regularly recruit for new volunteers for our Discovery Desks - keen, enthusiastic people who can sit at the desks with a small selection of objects that can be handled by visitors. Our volunteers are responsible for carrying out these short, interactive handling sessions and engaging with the public.
