NHS Remember project

'Remember' was part of a citywide partnership conducted by the Museum with the NHS, which includes work in Health Centres and hospitals throughout Plymouth.

Between Autumn 2005 and Spring 2006, staff worked at Mount Gould Hospital’s Denny Smith Unit once a fortnight, using Museum objects and images to help patients recall historical Plymouth and their memories of the city.

They also worked with staff in the unit, training them on the benefits of reminiscence as part of a care programme, which can make a significant difference to the morale of both patients and staff over time.

When the project culminated, the memories and images used were displayed along the wards at Mount Gould Hospital. An opening event to celebrate the work and the project’s achievements was also held.

The Outreach Team now continues to work with Mount Gould Hospital on a fortnightly basis.
