Summer Holiday Workshops 2006

We regularly hold free workshop sessions during the school holidays where families with children aged three years and up can have a go at a range of fun activities based on our collections and exhibitions.

In summer 2006, our activities were mainly inspired by our Light into Colour Turner in the South West, Lead Astray and In a Pickle exhibitions.

Hundreds of children tried their hand at a host of different drawing, art and design techniques from prints, pastels, poems and pickles, to sculptures, stories and handmade paper.

Activities included using art materials to create a miniature watercolour and making mysterious creatures in jars. We also ran a special three-day sculpture workshop where attendees worked together to produce a series of figures inspired by our Lead Astray exhibition.

The work produced as a result of all the sessions was so good we were able to create our own exhibition from it. Our Discovery Centre was awash with colour throughout September 2006 with our ‘Summer Celebration’ display.
