Volunteering at Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery
Volunteering with the museum is an invaluable way to help preserve the collections, improve our knowledge of them, enhance access to those collections and information, enthuse about what Plymouth holds, entertain and engage our visitors, learn something new, have fun and get involved.
Volunteering can offer you the opportunity to meet up professionally and socially with other volunteers and museum staff, add experience to your CV, get involved in something unusual or simply get out of the house.
The aim of our work is to provide excellent visitor experience, collections care and management, and to promote the museum to the people of Plymouth. Volunteer projects help us to do more, reach more and offer more.
We get so much support from volunteers, but as you can see from the schedule below, we can always do with more help. If there is something that you might be interested in, please contact the project supervisor directly on 304774 or email museum@plymouth.gov.uk.

- Who: Interest in numismatics, good attention to detail, handy with a craft knife
- Where: A20 in the museum annexe with Rachel Smith
- When: 10am to 12.30pm

Packaging and cataloguing Museum plans
- Who: Interest in documents/history, able to use Microsoft Windows Excel spreadsheet
- Where: Museum annexe with Mark Tosdevin
- When: 10am to 12 noon or 2pm to 4pm

Cataloguing Museum archives (minutes and news cuttings)
- Who: Interest in documents/history, able to use Microsoft Windows Excel spreadsheet, methodical, good attention to detail

As part of an oral history project about the life of those involved in the region’s quarrying industry. This work is being supervised by Kayleigh Mildren and Nicki Thomas.
- Who: You need access to computer and CD player; methodical; good hearing and typing skills
- Where: At home
- When: Approximately 10 hours minimum in November
Young Explainer programme
Young Explainer's work with us and are responsible for creating and holding events and activities designed to attract young people to our exhibitions and collections. WARNING this may take over your life!
- Who: Young people aged from 18 to 25 with an interest in art, history, natural history, project and event management, graphic design or marketing

The Core (youth forum) programme
The Core works with us and is responsible for creating and holding events and activities designed to attract young people to our exhibitions and collections.

- Who: Young people aged from 13 to 18 with an interest in art, history, natural history, project and event management, graphic design or marketing
