Sensory Services is responsible for maintaining a register of people who are deaf, hearing impaired, sight impaired (partially sighted), severely sight impaired (blind) or have a dual sensory loss.
When a Consultant Ophthalmologist decides that a person is eligible for being registered as sight impaired or severely sight impaired, they complete a Certificate of Visual Impairment (CVI).
A copy of the CVI is then sent our Customer Services Team. A member of the team will contact the individual to explain the benefits of being registered and the services available. The registration process is voluntary.
The process for being registered severely or moderately hearing impaired or having a dual sensory loss is also voluntary and less formal. An individual could be entitled to certain benefits and concessions by being registered, for example, concessions on public transport.
