How to apply

Once you have established whether you need planning permission, the next stage is to fill in the relevant application form. There are a number of different forms for different types of development and it is important to use the correct form.

The easiest and quickest way to apply is online, using the Planning Portal. The Council supports and encourages applicants to submit planning applications online through the Planning Portal, the official Government’s planning website. The Planning Portal is easy to use with online help, allowing you to complete an application form, save your work, attach all supporting documentation (including drawings) and purchase block and site location plans. The service also helps calculate the application fee and allows you to pay online, by cheque or telephone. Applications can be submitted online anytime for immediate delivery and acknowledgment, saving printing and postage costs.

Application forms are also available if you wish to print them and complete them by hand, but please check with us if you are not sure which form to use. Alternatively, you can collect a copy from our Planning Reception Desk on the ground floor of the Civic Centre, or we can send you one by post.

What do I need to include with my planning application?

When you are submitting an application it is important to make sure that you include all the information that is needed for us to fully consider your proposals. Failure to supply sufficient information may result in your application not being registered or a refusal.

You can find out what is required for an application to be registered and get guidance on copyright of Ordnance Survey Plans on our local validation list page.
