Shakespeare Primary School

West Park and Chaucer Primary Schools merged in 2009 to create Shakespeare Primary school with the official opening taking place on 30 April 2010.

Children and staff performed songs and a street dance for His Royal Highness, the Earl of Wessex KG KCVO, before he officially opened the new £6 million school.

The school provides a fabulous learning environment for the children of Honicknowle, with specialist teaching areas that include the hall, drama and music studio and an 'enquiry zone', as well as outdoor learning facilities such as the amphitheatre for productions, trim trail for fun fitness, the habitat area that includes a pond and wild flower meadow, and the junior soccer pitch.

The school is filled with eco-friendly features such as an intelligent water metering system and timed delivery waste reducing taps, as well as sensor controlled lighting and innovative specifications that reduce the need for air conditioning and insulation to keep unnecessary heat loss to a minimum, enabling children to learn firsthand about the importance of using our planets resources wisely.

The design and construction, using the latest thinking in planning, layout and information technology, was led by the Pyramid Consortium with Interserve Project Services as the lead construction company.
