In essence, Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) replace Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPGs). Supplementary Planning Documents serve to expand policy or provide further detail to policies in a Development Plan Document (DPD). They form part of the Local Development Framework.
It is anticipated in the first three years of the Local Development Framework program, that additional guidance in the form of Supplementary Planning Documents will be needed on Planning Obligations, Affordable Housing, and Design Matters.
These Supplementary Planning Documents will explain how the policies relating to planning publications and affordable housing provision can be applied to different situations, as well as amplifying the policies relating to urban design.
These guidance documents can not come into effect until the policies they refer to have been adopted (ie the adoption of the Core Strategy), which in effect dictates the timetable for their production.
