Sponsored walks and large scale events
These events require a careful planning by a team of people some of whom have had previous relevant experience. The scale of these events places greater responsibility on the organisers to provide a safety framework. One advantage is that this can then be shared with those taking part and save them effort.
For example, it is possible for the event to achieve approval and for this to extend even to participants from other authorities. An information sheet will help substantially and provide essential evidence of the planning that has been done.
Where large numbers of people congregate you should consider the need for:
- informing the police, landowners or parks managers for example
- arranging for additional toilets
- managing car parking and other spaces where there are to be a large numbers of people
- providing facilities for rubbish collection that include recycling
- ensuring that all participants are accounted for after the event
- providing first aid
- child safety
- risk assessing the event, activities or any course (legal obligation)
