Efford Valley is a large green space near Torridge Way in Efford. It used to be a tree nursery and so has some unusual trees which attract plenty of birds as well as a wetland area where you can find frogs and dragonflies. The community also planted a wildflower meadow there in 2009, which we hope will become a special place to see wildlife.
As part of the Building Communities Regeneration Initiative (BCI) residents and agencies in Efford have been working together to develop a Green Space Action Plan for the area. A Friends of the Valley group was created to engage local residents and young people in the decision making process on what improvements to make.
Local people have told us that they would like the park to be more welcoming, safer, better maintained and have more interesting things to do.
As a result the Stepping Stones Team are working with the BCI and Friends Group to help deliver a healthy activity trail in the woodland area of the valley near Severn Place to be completed by April 2010. Other improvements include creation of a wetland area, woodland management and an outdoor classroom.
For more information on other proposed improvements to the site or to get involved in the Friends of the Valley group visit the Heart of Efford Community Partnership website.
