The following objective is from the Core Strategy.
The city’s transport and communication links are vital to its economic and social wellbeing.
It is important that Plymouth has good links to London and the continent. People also need to be able to travel easily and safely in their daily lives. We aim to improve the road network to enable Plymouth to grow in a sustainable way. We also plan to reduce the increasing traffic congestion by promoting a choice of alternatives to the car, for example bus, cycling or walking. We monitor a number of facts and figures to enable us to understand how well our policies are working.
Did you know that:
The current picture is one of a decreasing dependence on the car and increased use of public transport. We also need to improve rail services to the rest of the country, particularly to London. A Rail Connectivity Study has just been completed and will be used to lobby for improvements to the south west rail franchise. We will also be looking for opportunities to improve broadband connections.
