Waste
Reducing, reusing and recycling can help to reduce carbon emissions, as well as being beneficial to our surrounding environment. Reducing the amount we throw away also reduces the number of trucks needed to transport this waste to landfill sites, helping us to achieve our carbon reduction goals.
Devon Waste Partnership
Plymouth City Council is working together with Devon Country Council and Torbay Council within the South West Devon Waste Partnership. It aims to provide a long term solution to deal with waste from the south west Devon area. As well as reducing waste miles, the Partnership is also looking into an energy from waste facility, which would process waste in a way that generates usable energy. This is usually in the form of electricity, heat or a combination of the two, and is a good example of low carbon technology.
Waste Development Plan
Plymouth City Council has adopted a Waste Development Plan, which sets out the policy context for considering waste management and disposal facilities. Within this Plan, climate change is tackled in Policy W8, which states that all major applications for waste management facilities should include a Climate Change and Sustainability Statement.
