The Tamar estuaries provide the basis for recreational activities widely used and enjoyed by locals, and increasingly by visitors and tourists.
The estuaries have been used for hosting large events such as the Trans-Atlantic race, the Cutty Shark Tall Ships race and international and national angling, yachting and dingy championships.
Numerous sandy beaches, Dartmoor National Park and a number of country parks are within easy reach of urban centres around the estuaries.
