Toddlers toolkit

The aim of the toolkit is to promote healthy eating, good hygiene practices and an awareness of other safety and well-being issues amongst parents of children aged 0 to 3 years old.

It's a collection of resources centred on addressing clear social themes of:

• Diet, nutrition and health
• Hygiene and cleaning
• Sun safety
• Safe, active play

The kit contains 10 Activities that can be adapted to present or deliver to parents, carers, or parent and toddlers groups.

To support the activities, the kit contains easy to use activity sheets and guidance notes, suggested props and materials. Activities are supported by different media including posters, leaflets, colouring posters, games, cards, and songs.

Resources for each activity vary, from printable materials, food items that can be prepared or bought, and props and materials available to borrow from the Primary Care Trust Resource Centre at Derriford.

How to use the toddlers toolkit

The toolkit consists of 10 activity sheets:

• Sun safety
• Handwashing
• Cleaning
• Toy safety
• Being active
• Food safety
• Healthy eating - fruits
• Healthy eating - vegetables
• Traffic light labelling
• The eatwell plate

Each activity sheet is tailored to be delivered in a session lasting between 30 and 40 minutes. However the sessions can be extended or adapted to suit each group's needs.

The activity sheets aim to put the message across in a fun and simple way. Each activity lists the resources required at the start of the sheet. There is also a separate resource list detailing where you can access the resources for each activity sheet and other sources of useful information.
