The Urban Traffic Control (UTC) Team is responsible for the operation and maintenance of Plymouth's traffic signal control systems.
There are more than 100 traffic signal junctions and over 50 signal-controlled pedestrian crossings in Plymouth many of which are controlled directly by the Authority's UTC computer system to enable better co-ordination and fault monitoring.
Using IT systems located at the Authority's traffic control room, traffic flow and signal timings are constantly refined to optimise the efficiency of flow of traffic and to ensure proper provision of crossing facilities for cyclists and pedestrians.
CCTV cameras monitor the main road network and give a real time picture of the traffic situation throughout the city enabling the team to react to incidents on the network.
The team is also responsible for the operation of other intelligent transport systems, eg car park guidance, variable message signs etc and will be at the forefront in introducing the next generation of traffic management and control systems to enable better management and monitoring of the highway network.
Traffic signal faults can be reported to Plymouth City Council's traffic control room by calling the number given on this page. Alternatively, you can use our highway problems online form.
Please remember, when reporting a fault:
