TRIAL PLACEMENTS PROCEDURE

A protocol agreed by the Plymouth Association of Secondary Heads and Plymouth City Council's Department of Services for Children and Young People.

It is recognised that trial placement is a useful mechanism and for it to work successfully, co-operation between schools in the city is vital. This means that all schools should be prepared to consider pupils for trial placements when asked, and only for exceptional reasons should such trials be refused.

A trial placement may also be initiated by the Local Authority (LA), particularly where a child has already attended a number of schools within the city or it is felt that the current school is looking for a fresh start for a child through discussion with the parents/carers. This is most likely to occur when a parent/carer has made a request for an in-year admission to an alternative school.

All schools operating the trials protocol will need to complete the Revised TP1 form at the start of the trial and a Revised TP2 form when the trial has been completed.
