Whitleigh Woods is an area of ancient semi-natural woodland located in the north of Plymouth between the areas of Whitleigh, Southway and Tamerton Foliot. The 20.3ha site is owned and managed by The Woodland Trust and is accessible to the public. The site is positioned on a north east-facing slope in a largely urban environment. A variety of habitats are present including dry woodland, wet woodland, plantations, meadows and is also a Local Nature Reserve
The site is designated as a County Wildlife Site because the site has much to offer, with over 20 species indicative of ancient woodland including sessile oak, yew, sanicle and barren strawberry.
